Live in NJ, bringing car to school in FL, question about car insurance?
I am looking to bring my car from NJ (where i’m a resident) to school with me in Florida, and I need some help: My father is freaking out because he thinks the car insurance will go WAY UP. Does anyone know how this works?
Am i allowed to ship my car down there and not tell me insurance at all? Just like bringing it on a mini vacation lol. Remember, I’m not a resident of Florida.
Any answers?!
Yes your insurance will go up. The reason to do this is because your vehicle is so far away from you home. Another reason is the vehicle will be at a college, and you will more than likely have your vehicle out in the parking lot instead of your gargage or driveway. If you will be parking you vehicle in a private home gargage or driveway then make sure you tell your insurance company that. You have to tell your insurance company that you are taking the vehicle down there, because if you have an accident they might deny your claim. The best person to ask is your insurance company. They can give you a quote on how much your premium will go up. Then again you might get lucky, and your rates might not go up at all.
That is NOT going to save you as much money as you think. I strongly suspect that if you called a few insurance companies in your area, you’d find out that there are companies WITH AGENTS that would work for you, with premiums around what Unitrin is quoting you.
Can a auto insurance company find out if you had accident, if you didn’t report to DMV/DPS?
I live in Texas, I got in a Car accident a couple months ago, I had full coverage so my current insurance company covered my car to get fixed. I never reported the accident to the DMV/DPS But now my insurance went up alot, I have one month to renew with this company. I was thinking about switching companies if I can find a cheaper one. If I call a new company and tell them I have noe prior car accidents would they be able to find out I had? Cause it’s not on my driving record? Thanks
